Back

Hi guy's were back for another season of motor racing in 2003 Python racing's first round was at Calder Park Raceway February 15th this was an interesting Round due to the fact that it was a one day event dusk meeting finishing at 9:30pm and was run on the Calder Park short track George Vidovic was quite apprehensive in running the short track, but after practice on Friday found that he and the Cobra settled into the groove.

On Saturday morning qualifying George had put some good in to place him fourth on the grid he eventually climbed up the grid after a turn one incident that involved John Good in an Porsche and in another Porsche to finish second in the main race on Saturday afternoon placing George second in the Sports Car Championship.

Round 2, had the team travel to Winton Raceway approximately 210 click's North of Melbourne. This is not one of Georges favorite race circuits. Saturday morning practice and qualifying was filled with drama. George had only managed to complete three laps because the Python was "over-filled" with oil and was found to be spilling the excess oil onto the rear wheels turning it into a wild ride because of the lack of laps the Python qualified 17th on the grid for race one, which put George in a situation on track he was not comfortable with to do some hard work to climb up the grid to accumulate some good points. Race one  was exciting after some hard charging by George he had managed to climb up to 12th position in a five lap race dicing with Westfield's, Elfins and Porsches which were well suited to Wintons tight winding corners.

Race two, George was starting to get into the groove taking his qualifying time from 1:27 sec to 1:35 sec for race two. After some heavy dueling with the likes of Barry Ward in a supercharged MX5, Geoff Martinez in a Westfield, Neil Bryson in a Porsche 964 and Mark Cini in a Porsche GT3 George managed to finish 6th in another five lap race bringing him close to the top guns of the field for race three.

Race three, this was a ten lap race in 30 degree heat on Sunday afternoon. George had to really try to put the hammer down so that he could pick some good places to accumulate some points for the championship and try to chase down the front runners. Turn one was the heavy traffic corner an the green light George picked up one spot by turn one finding himself behind Marc Cini in the GT3 by the second lap George had passed the GT3 and started chasing down Tom Hutchinson in the lethal TR8 closing the gap lap by lap George had finally passed the TR8 and had the turbo Porsche of Brett Bedgood in his sights who was holding third position in the race but unfortunately Brett had run a perfect race and George crossed the line in fourth position with his best time of 1:32 sec a very successful weekend for the team Python and George Vidovic.

Stay tuned for Round Three at Sandown on April 5th/6th or come and see us at the track.

The Python Vehicles Australia banner will be hanging at the back of the Garage facing the paddock area.
